The Country Club Golf Course By adrian calow Most country club courses allow golfers to pay a green fee and you need to consider how much you are going to be playing before deciding wether the membership fee is to be justified.
If it costs you $25 to play a round and you only ever play Sunday mornings then you are only spending $1300 a year on your golf. If your local country club wants say $2000 for an annual membership then it would be silly to take up the offer unless you were going to make use their other facilities such as tennis courts etc. Play two rounds a week however and obviously it is a different story and you should join the club.
Country club membership isn't just about though and you should check what else is on offer such as a sauna and spa, gym, pool, tennis courts etc. As a player you should find out if there is a members league, how many competitions a week etc. Also, if you are taking a family membership, what is the youth program like for the younger members of your family and is there much for your partner to get involved in if is not there thing.
Some club memberships carry a lot of status for their chosen members and this could be important if you run your own business and your target market are the affluent. These clubs can also give your teenage children a step up the ladder once they reach adult hood. Being known to the wealthy and elite of their community is going to be a big advantage once college is out of the way and a job is required.
Other benefits that might be on offer include member discounts in the pro shop(up to 20% at some clubs), preferred tee off times and discount green fees if you bring any none members to the club for a round of golf.
If you are new to the area you may wish to try several country clubs before deciding by taking out a monthly membership. Even if they do not advertise a one month
membership, they can usually be negotiated.
Country clubs sometimes have property for sale set amongst and around the course itself. These properties usually come with country club membership included. One such country club is Collier's Reserve in Naples, Florida. Situated along the Cocohatchee River it offers its homeowners the chance to enjoy fishing and boating as well championship golf. Now thats what I call a great life!
In Portugal and Spain these types of live in country club courses are extremely popular with people retiring early from countries in northern Europe. Many thousands have already taken the plunge and many more follow each year from countries like England where people come for the year long sunshine and of course, for the world class golf.
