Renting With Pets Many people have pets, but if they must live in rental accommodation, there can be a problem because many landlords don't like pets. Pets can cause noise nuisance and damage carpets or other flooring. Cats often scratch fly screens to pieces. Both may dig up the garden and dogs love digging holes in lawn. So how can you persuade your landlord to accept you and your gorgeous pet?
Convince the owner that you are a responsible pet owner by creating a resume for your pet. It should include a previous neighbour's or landlord's reference, obedience training undertaken, inoculations and neutering information. Other items can include number of hours you walk your pet each day and what arrangements you make for the pet when you are away.
Arrange a meeting
between your pet and the landlord so its cleanliness and good behaviour can be seen. Offer to sign a pet agreement specifying that you will replace anything damaged by the pet, such as flyscreens.
Once your landlord sees that you clean up after your pet and care for it properly, he or she may be much more agreeable to you renting from him with your pet.
In Western Australia and the Northern Territory you can pay a pet deposit to cover damage caused by the pet, but other states do not endorse this.
