Open House Viewing Safety If you are trying to sell your house and have arranged an open day for viewing, there are some safety procedures that you should follow.
- Never leave valuables in view. Don't just hide them either, but lock them up in a safe place and then hide the safe. If you don't have a safe, place them on the topmost shelf of the pantry or storage cupboard. In some cases, thieves go viewing houses with the intention of robbing; in other cases it is a sudden greedy impulse. But the result is the same for you.
- Have your mobile phone preset to 000 so that you can call help if you see suspicious activity. Or you could call a friend with a pre-arranged password that will alert
them to call 000.
- While attendees may not be all that pleased to be asked for photo ID, they should not have any real problem with it if they are genuine buyers. If they are prospective thieves they may suddenly decide they didn't want to see the house after all.
