Stem-cell-storage-therapy-latent-in-curing-serious-diseases
By Justin Mathew
Human body is made up of thousands of different cells and stem cells form an important fraction of the body. Stem cells are instituted in almost all multiple cell organisms, these cells have the ability of renewing themselves via mitotic division of cells and then they differentiate into an assorted series of particular cell types. Research in the field of stem cells was initiated by the findings of two Canadian scientists namely James E. and Ernest A. McCulloch in the year 1960. There are two extensive types of stem cells in mammals: adult stem cells which are only found in the tissues of the adults and embryonic stem cells to be found in blastocyts. In an embryo that is in a developing stage, stem cells differentiate into all the focused embryonic tissues unlike the adult organisms, where the stem cells function as a repair system in the body and replenish specialized cells while maintaining the normal return of organs that regenerate like skin tissues , blood and intestinal tissues.

The use of stem cells in medical therapies is widely projected, as stem cells can be developed and changed into particular specialized cells with certain characteristics constant with various tissues’ cells such as the nerves or muscles.

Though there are differing opinions on the storage of stem cells but the medical promise that the treatment of diseases through the storage of stem cells has held the attention of a large mass of people worldwide. But the various factors that determine the final word for umbilical cord blood storage most likely are ethics, genetic disorders, racial groups and family history.

The main reason behind a number of expecting parents opting for storage is that in case of emergencies if an urgent need arises, then the patient need not have to wait for a donor who matches the cells. The storage industry is on a boom with the huge number

of private and public banks joining the industry. In case of families having not stored the stem cells of their own babies are still likely to have a sample which is genetically matched from a public cord blood bank.

Medical researchers have a strong belief in the potential of treatments in alleviating human suffering and changing the visage of human disease. Though most of the treatments based on storage are still experimental and expensive, with bone marrow transplantation being an exception nonetheless medical researchers foresee that one day it will be possible that a number of diseases like cancer, diabetes, muscle damage, spinal cord injuries and other impairments can be successfully treated through treatment.

Heart damage
Heart injuries can be treated successfully with the help of treatment based on the storage of stem cells as several medical attempts targeting heart damage have exhibited positive results. Hence, it has ensured that heart diseases can be cured through adult treatment besides revealing the fact that therapy is effective and safe.

Apart from heart diseases, therapy has shown its potential in treating a number of serious diseases, injuries and impairments including brain damage, Haematopoiesis (blood cell formation), baldness, missing teeth, deafness, blindness and vision impairment.
