How To Choose The Right Dog For Your Family
By Steven Ross
Have you been thinking about adding a dog to the family? Without a doubt, a new and cute puppy will provide you and your family with lots of fun.

And before you know it, that little bundle of joy will grow into a full sized dog, providing you with years of friendship and companionship. But, did you know that sometimes it's not a good idea to get a puppy? And without a doubt, it's important to never rush the decision and make a bad choice.

Before you go and get a puppy, there are many things you need to consider.

Now of course, not all are the same. They come in different sizes, different shapes, different amounts of energy, and require different amounts of attention from their owners.

Some are passive while other are more aggressive by nature. Perhaps most importantly, some are good with children and some are not.

This is one of the most important criteria that you should consider before choosing a dog. Do you have children in the family? Then, you must think carefully about what dog to choose. Don't just choose what your children want. Many children see the movie 101 Dalmatians, and immediately want a Dalmatian puppy.

Unfortunately, once the little Dalmatian puppy grows up into a full-size dog, the problems begin. This type of dog has a lot of energy and they make very good pets but they do far better around adults because they can be very aggressive around children.

So what happens? Many of these poor are thereafter given away to the pound or other adoption agencies.

Why not start by thinking about what the dog will grow into? Don't just fall in love with the cute little puppy and immediately take it home. Ask yourself important questions like... How big will the dog get? How energetic is the dog? How territorial is this breed of dog?

Match the dog breed's personality and physical stature against your needs, your wants, and your situation. For example, if you live in an apartment with only 500 square feet of living space, you won't want to own a larger dog.

Do you live in a

country or do you live in the city? If you live in the city, why would you select a dog with lots of energy? Make sure that if you choose an active and energetic dog that you have plenty of time to spend with it. Also make sure that there are plenty of parks in your area that you can take the dog to and play.

Finally, you also need to remember that owning a puppy isn't only fun and games. There's work involved too. Puppies need to be trained and they demand your attention in many other ways as well.

Don't be one of the types of people that take a puppy home and later find that you don't have enough time for the dog. Remember that puppies have special needs and need to be cared for throughout the day. Also it's important to remember that puppies like to chew on your favorite furniture. You will need to read further about how to prevent this annoying tendency.

Therefore, make sure you think before choosing a dog. Take the time to study so that you'll be able to choose wisely. Don't just pick the cutest kind of puppy. Make sure to take the time to think things through and choose the right dog.
