Companies Operating In Iraq Strategize Around Employee Support
Roundtable Offers Companies Operating in Opportunity To Strategize Around Employee SupportNEW YORK, NY – October 13, 2004: Multinational employers with operations in and other high-risk locations came together recently to discuss strategies for supporting their employees in the field. FGI, a leading North American-based provider of international employee and employer support services, partnered with a major news organization to co-host the roundtable discussion that included senior level Human Resources and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) leaders from global organizations in the media, engineering, construction, telecommunications and non-profit industries. The discussion was preceded by a presentation that examined the risks inherent in operating in hostile environments, ranging from safety hazards, multicultural conflict and mental health implications including the impact of trauma on productivity and effectiveness. The presentation offered attendees the opportunity to examine potential solutions for addressing these issues through proactive planning and support for expatriate employees and their families, including: appropriate selection and personal preparation; cultural education; access to confidential counseling and trauma support; and repatriation planning. The roundtable was organized in response to the increasing kidnappings and threats to civilian workers in Iraq. Among those attending, the Associated Press acknowledged that media reporters tend to cover stories

from war to war despite inherent risks.

Mercedes D'Angelo, Director, Business Solutions for FGI, said that, "Our clinical experts have recognized and are responding to the fact that even the most resilient assignees are not immune to developing vulnerabilities when witnessing violence and experiencing trauma over time. They can become 'sloppy' with regard to safe behavior and safety protocols, or develop negative coping patterns which may put them at risk for making poor decisions or creating conflict. On a positive note, the roundtable allowed for an exchange of ideas and solutions between organizations who want to support their staff and staff families during this very stressful time."About FGIFGI is dedicated to providing leading-edge, global human resource solutions in the areas of International Employee Assistance Programs, Trauma Response Programs and a full suite of Global Services for business travelers, expatriate employees, local nationals and multicultural teams. FGI's 2,100 clients employ 3.5 million people around the world. FGI's U.S.

headquarters is based in Parsippany, New Jersey. www.fgiworld.com FOR MORE INFORMATION:Rachel Azzopardi, FGI415-359-0338e-mail protected from spam botsThis press release was distributed through eMediawire by Human Resources Marketer (HR Marketer: www.HRmarketer.com) on behalf of the company listed above..
